FUSIONOPOLIS

Three towers linked by sky bridges in One-North Business Park, Singapore

Fusionopolis is a research and development hub providing a ground for collaboration, aiming to enable faster growth in the ICT, media, physical sciences and engineering industries. Covering 30 hectares of the One-North development in Singapore, the Fusionopolis complex is located at the One-North business park, Buona Vista. The cluster houses various research organizations, companies, agencies, and retail space as well as serviced apartments in one location.

The Fusionopolis Phase 1 consists of three towers, with a gross floor area covering 120,000 m². Late Japanese architect Dr. Kisho Kurokawa designed the building and managed to create the magnificent tower triplet where translucent blue towers rise over 20 stories high and are linked by the sky bridges. A giant silver balloon is poised between the towers, which are rising high without the obstruction of ground columns at the lower levels. The facade made from glass is structurally-glazed curtain wall. The facade material prevents high wind loads from being transferred to the buildings inner structure.

The futuristic elements of the building and variety of different visors and overhangs challenge the facade maintenance, but with over 1,2 kilometers of Rostek monorail, facade access is easy, and cleaning is efficient with motorized climbing trolleys. The midsection of Fusiopolis maintenance is taken care from 3 Rostek gantries; one of them with removable launching platform. Rostek’s Gantries and Ladders are intended to form an aesthetic part of any skylight or atrium. A gantry can have suspension points for a BMU cradle to provide access to internal facades of an atrium.
